Technological innovation is rapidly accelerating the upscaling of peatland restoration by making the planning, implementation, and monitoring of restoration projects more efficient, affordable and credible. High‑resolution drone and satellite and automated in-situ sensors data enable granular mapping of environmental parameters, while AI powers large data analysis and modelling. Digital decision‑support tools help model hydrological scenarios, identify priority sites, and design effective rewetting measures. Interactive maps, visualisations, and participatory planning platforms strengthen stakeholder engagement and empower communities to understand opportunities and co‑shape restoration concepts.
Meanwhile, innovative financial instruments such as carbon and biodiversity credit tools and pricing models, further support investors and project developers in evaluating climate benefits and mobilising private capital for restoration at scale. Together, these innovations create the technical, social, and financial conditions needed to scale peatland restoration in Germany, the UK, and beyond.
At our event, you will hear from leading tech innovators in the peatland restoration community. Learn how nature conservation practitioners have partnered with scientific institutions and tech companies to employ cutting-edge technology for durable, large-scale and cost-efficient peatland restoration projects. You will get the chance to interact with all presenters and network with other attendees over drinks and refreshments.

EXPLORE OUR PEATLAND RESTORATION PROJECTS
Peatlands are powerful carbon reservoirs. With a new project co-financed by the EU LIFE programme, NABU and its partners are setting out to transform and dramatically expand European peatland restoration, making a major contribution to the EU's climate goals. Mehr →
Biodiversity certificates and credits are an innovative funding tool to advance wetland conservation and restoration. With this project, NABU and its partners will select pilot sites, test standards and methods, and showcase benefits for buyers and ecosystems. Mehr →
This project, which is running until 2027, aims to reduce CO₂ emissions in project sites by the equivalent of 37.117 tons of CO₂ per year in Latvia and 3.500 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year in Finland. NABU is supporting the project with its expertise in peatland restoration and communications. Mehr →
What Europe needs? Wet peatlands! NABU is part of the international project LIFE Multi Peat that aims to rewet and manage degraded peatlands covering an area of 689 hectare. The project is being implemented in Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland and Germany. Mehr →
