Ruff, whimbrel and avocet on the decrease
New report on the status of birds in the German Wadden Sea

NABU, in alliance with its BirdLife partners VBN (The Netherlands) and DOF (Denmark) is strengthening its engagement in the Wadden Sea. The new report contains an analysis of the conservation and ecological status of the area, describes threats for birds, and identifies gaps in knowledge and topics for future action. Within the last 20 years, 19 out of 33 migratory bird species have decreased in number.

Noise Threatens Our Oceans
Wind farm construction causes hearing damage to marine mammals

Erecting wind farms offshore is accompanied by an infernal noise. A sound pressure up to 200 decibels occurs while driving the foundation piles into the ocean floor by means of an hydraulic pile hammer. In the coming years plans for new wind farms have been completed. For offshore wind power to become a truly green technology, wind farm construction has to be marine-life friendly.
