"Harapan Rainforest" pilot project is protecting climate and species

The German Ministry of Environment (BMU) is supporting the conservation of Harapan Rainforest, a 1,000 square kilometer area on the Indonesian island of Sumatra with a unique wildlife. NABU as the German Partner of BirdLife Internationall, the world’s largest network of conservation organisations participating, supports Harapan Rainforest through fundraising, technical advice and promoting.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, our work in Kyrgyzstan, in the fragile high mountainous region of Central Asia, has centred on protecting endangered species, establishing protected areas, environmental education and supporting non-governmental organisations.

NABU has been supporting the international non-governmental organisation, the Sahara Conservation Fund with its work to protect endangered animal species in the Sahara Desert since 2007. The Sahara Conservation Fund has been working in the Sahara region since 2000.

In the Pamir-Alai region, the border area between Tajikistan and its neighbouring country Kyrgyzstan, NABU is working in cooperation with partner organisations to establish a cross-border protected area. Establishing a protected area is a project that is both ambitious and long-term.
