Did you know that nearly all European common shelducks use the Wadden Sea to breed, moult, stop-over or winter? Moreover, the annual congregation of up to 200,000 moulting shelducks in a very small area during late summer is one of the most outstanding phenomena in global bird life. Please follow the journey of our “transmitter ducks” Tonja, Kati and Diva on this website!

NABU, in alliance with its BirdLife partners VBN (The Netherlands) and DOF (Denmark) is strengthening its engagement in the Wadden Sea. The new report contains an analysis of the conservation and ecological status of the area, describes threats for birds, and identifies gaps in knowledge and topics for future action. Within the last 20 years, 19 out of 33 migratory bird species have decreased in number. mehr ...

This study focuses on various fields of conflict between Green Gene Technology and interests of nature conservation. Where deemed appropriate, it also presents problems that exist in neighbouring, yet interlinked fields of law, e.g. food law. The study pursues two goals: It wants to identify and to describe the main fields of conflict for persons affected and addresses the expert audience. mehr ...
Nature knows no borders. Birds migrate across continents, mammals cross national frontiers in search of new habitats and local environmental pollution has global effects. That’s why NABU, one of the biggest environmental organisations in Germany, has been active on the international stage for many years.
