Education and Information Material on Wolves for Young and Old

Since survival of large carnivore species is strongly pending on public acceptance, NABU launched a project to create education and information material on wolves. This project was funded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation with support from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. The aim of the project was to create material that could be applied i.a. at schools, nature conservation groups, wildlife parks and that targets young people as well as adults.

To raise public awareness on wolves, NABU worked out a DVD with the following contents:

Wolf game
Young people and adults get to know basic as well as surprising facts about wolves. While playing the computer game they follow a wolf on his journey from Poland to Germany and answer 15 questions about wolves. The players gain funny animations and cartoons as a reward for correct answers.

Education material (grades 5-10)
Worksheets for English, Politics, German, and Biology lessons were created to enable teachers to integrate the wolf topic easily and without large effort into the particular courses.

The DVD helps people to gain insight into the lives of wolves and therefore smoothes the way for a better understanding of a so-called conflict species. While attaining further knowledge about wolves, people may also develop acceptance for large carnivores which is crucial for the wolves’ survival in Germany.
